Week of September 27

TARDIES:
This year’s Attendance Plan includes teachers marking students tardy to class if they arrive to the classroom within 5 minutes after the bell rings to avoid students missing valuable instructional time by being sent to the Attendance Office. Please be advised that the first 5 minutes after the bell is NOT a grace period.  It is important for all students to arrive to class on time to class to avoid school discipline consequences associated with repeatedly being marked tardy and to maximize instructional time.

BUS COMMUNICATION UPDATE:
Attention Parents and Students! If you haven’t already, please accept our PSHS Announcements Canvas page invite. On the PSHS Announcements Page, we will:

List late buses for the morning and afternoon runs
List bus changes for the morning and afternoon runs
Provide a link to a Bus Location map for student use at dismissal

Morning bus changes should be available no later than 7:00am. All students who ride a bus should accept the invitation to join the Canvas page.  Parents who are set up as an “observer” to their student’s Canvas account will also receive the emails with bus announcements.  Parents who need assistance with becoming and observer can visit the Announcements page on the Potomac webpage for directions on how to create a parent Canvas account.

PICK-UP/DROP-OFF:
Parents, for the safety of all involved, please remember that all students should be dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon in the underclassman parking lot.  After turning in at the marquee, take the fourth right, into the underclassmen lot, and then an immediate right to drop off at the sidewalk leading up the steps toward the school. Thank you for helping to increase safety while decreasing back-ups.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE INFO:
On Monday, October 11th, we will hold our Fall Touch Base event from 7:30 – 9:30am at the school. The Touch Base event provides parents and caregivers with the opportunity to briefly meet with teachers to discuss student progress and to plan strategies for continued student growth. Students do not report to school as the remainder of the day will serve as a teacher workday.

It is our schoolwide expectation that students are in class on time to maximize instructional time. Please take time to review our Potomac Student Handbook for an overview of student behavioral expectations and consequences as we get the school year started.

GET INVOLVED: I encourage all of our parents to support continued success at Potomac by joining the Potomac Principals Advisory Council (PAC), or Parent, Teacher, Student Organization (PTSO). Please see meeting info below:

STUDENT ATTENDANCE: In an effort to keep students and staff healthy and safe, Potomac High School is moving towards a paperless attendance office system. Please send all communications about attendance via email to your child's administrative secretary.

For absences, late arrivals or early dismissals, please send an email with your child's name, attendance request, brief explanation of the request and date/time if available. If you have documentation from the courts, a doctor's office, etc., please send this as an attachment to your email.  Once we receive the email, we will process the request and make the necessary adjustments in your child's records.
