Picture of American flagSchools across Prince William County paid tribute to veterans of our armed forces recently in anticipation of the observance of Veterans Day. Through patriotic assemblies, breakfasts, “thank you” cards, and pictures, our students expressed their appreciation to veterans in their communities.

Kyle R. Wilson Elementary School served breakfast to 90 veterans and their families. The school hallways were decorated with hanging stars, and veterans watched a video featuring their children.

Cedar Point Elementary School’s assembly included Boy Scouts of America Pack 1384 Color Guard, a performance by the Patriot High School chorus, and students reciting poems on what a veteran means to them. The Cedar Point program included a history of Taps, a bugle call played at dusk, during flag ceremonies, and at military funerals by the United States Armed Forces.

Mountain View Elementary School greeted veterans related to staff and students with a "Walk of Honor" and continental breakfast.

Many tributes in the schools were for School Division employees who are military veterans. Not only are these men and women our valued colleagues and friends, their dedication reminds us each day of the importance of freedom and patriotism in this great country.
