Second Quarter - Moving Forward
Good morning!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving Break!

There's a lot going on in room 7017, so I certainly hope that everyone is re-energized after five days off!

For English 9, we are finishing up our final projects for Animal Farm, and students will present them in class tomorrow, Nov. 29. After we finish up with this novel, we will be moving into our next unit, which will more than likely be either Romeo and Juliet or Hunger Games. :) Students are expected to either have their own copy of Hunger Games or use the link under "Useful Links" here which will take you to the free e-book. Many students are doing very, very well and excelling so much! We will be hitting root words and writing much harder in quarter two than we did in quarter one, so please expect that!

For English 10, we are halfway through our first novel on social injustice, To Kill a Mockingbird. Many students fell behind with the reading schedule, so please check the SLMS calendar to ensure your student is prepared for each quiz that comes up! We will be done within two weeks is the goal - and we encourage the use of audio in addition to text! If there is no hard copy of the novel at home, students are encouraged to use the free e-book in the "Useful Links" category if they prefer the online version, as well. We will start going into SOL writing prompts/persuasive writing here this quarter, too, and will be going into the novel Night by Elie Wiesel once we finish TKAM. It is a memoir of the Holocaust - if there are any concerns about this novel, please feel free to let me know!

For the most part, things are going well - students who are not succeeding on the level they could be are only dealing with low grades, generally due to NHI (not handed in) grades. If you have questions, my door is always open!

Thanks for all the support, and enjoy the upcoming holidays!

Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Reid
